A Kingston man has been charged with sacrilege following the theft of over $200,000 value of apparatus from a church in Freetown, Clarendon final week.
The accused, 45-year-old Damion Henry, a labourer of Maxfield Avenue, Kingston 13, was arrested after stolen objects have been recovered in his possession, in response to a police assertion issued on Sunday.
Below the Larceny Act, an individual discovered responsible of sacrilege—outlined as breaking and getting into anyplace of “divine worship”—faces as much as 10 years in jail.
In keeping with studies, on February 19, officers on the Longville Boulevard-based church found each the back and front doorways open. Upon inspection, they realized that an audio mixer, amplifier, microphones, and speaker cords have been lacking.
Police investigations decided that the theft occurred between February 16 and February 18. The matter was reported, and on Friday, officers, appearing on intelligence, recovered an audio mixer and an amplifier from a person who claimed he had bought them from Henry.
Additional inquiries led officers to a bar in Longville Park, Clarendon, the place Henry was allegedly making an attempt to promote extra stolen objects. When questioned, he reportedly failed to supply a passable clarification for his possession of the tools.
The stolen objects have been later recognized as property of the church, and Henry was taken into custody. A warning assertion was recorded, and he was subsequently charged with sacrilege.
Henry is predicted to look in courtroom quickly to reply the costs.
