Kingston, Jamaica — A district constable has been charged after he was allegedly caught with ganja and different prohibited objects on the Horizon Grownup Remand Centre on Spanish City Street in Kingston.

The accused, 25-year-old District Constable Robert Campbell from Level Hill, St. Catherine, has been charged with dealing in ganja and bringing prohibited articles right into a correctional centre. Campbell, who’s assigned to Detention and Courts, was formally charged on Thursday following a ruling by the Workplace of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

In response to reviews, the incident occurred round 7:00 a.m. final Friday whereas Campbell was within the barrack room of the correctional centre. It’s alleged that whereas he was altering his garments in preparation for work, a small parcel fell from his pocket. He reportedly tried to hide it by stepping on it, which raised the suspicion of his supervising corporal.

The supervisor retrieved the parcel, which was discovered to comprise vegetable matter resembling ganja. A subsequent search of Campbell’s knapsack in his presence reportedly uncovered a number of parcels of vegetable matter resembling ganja, together with vegetable matter resembling tobacco, a USB cable, $20,650 in money, a pack of Rizzla, and a lighter.

Campbell was taken into custody, and a file was submitted to the ODPP. Following a evaluation, the ruling was made to formally cost him.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
