    Honouring The Mighty Diamonds – Jamaica Observer

    Rosemarie Simpson, daughter of Fitzroy “Bunny Diamond” Simpson, and Donald Shaw Jr, son of Donald “Tabby Diamond” Shaw, on the April 5 Tribute To The Mighty Diamonds present at Swift River Middle in Rosedale, New York..

    It was a night of glittering performances on April 5 at Swift River Middle in Rosedale, New York, for Tribute To The Mighty Diamonds.

    Staged by the Caribbean American Society of New York (CASONY), the occasion saluted the legendary roots-reggae group, finest recognized for songs like I Want A Roof, The Proper Time, and Go The Kutchie.

    “We have been more than happy with the tribute which was initiated in 2022 following the passing of Tabby and Bunny Diamond. The tribute is an annual gathering of household, pals, and well-wishers to rejoice the constructive, cultural, uplifting contributions made by Tabby, Bunny, Decide, and The Mighty Diamonds to the world,” Gerry Dawes of CASONY advised the
    Jamaica Observer. “There may be a lot for us to present thanks for as we share, as we stay one with the method, within the celebration of life, the legacy, the message within the music of The Mighty Diamonds.”

    Papa Michigan, J Written, Binghi Blaze, Marcia Davis, Cherry Rock, Barry Brathwaithe, and Alfray Music have been the artistes paying tribute to the trio. They have been backed by LeRoy Graham and True Tribute Band, and Derrick Barnett and the Assertion Band.

    Donald “Tabby Diamond” Shaw, lead singer of The Mighty Diamonds, was murdered in entrance of his house in Waterhouse, Kingston, on March 29 2022. He was 67.

    Three days later, Fitzroy “Bunny Diamond” Simpson died in Kingston at age 70. He had been in unwell well being since struggling a stroke in 2015. Two of their youngsters, Donald Shaw Jr and Rosemarie Simpson, attended the present.

    Lloyd “Decide Diamond” Ferguson is the one surviving unique member of the group which shaped in Trench City in 1969.

    They ensemble to fame at Channel One studio throughout the Seventies with a sequence of socially-conscious songs that helped outline the roots-reggae style.

    CASONY additionally honoured a number of reggae stalwarts at Tribute To The Mighty Diamonds. They have been singers Fred Locks and Marcia Davis, musician Le’Roy Graham Jr, sound system selector Robert “Jah Clever” Campbell, storyteller/writer Sharon Gordon, poet/artiste and present producer Kufunya Ife, and photographer Roland Hyde.
